San Diego FC star Hirving "Chucky" Lozano is not on the Mexico national team roster for the upcoming Gold Cup after injuring his left hamstring during Saturday's MLS match against Austin FC.

Mexico announced Wednesday that Lozano wouldn't be part of the team due to the injury. The team formally unveiled the roster Wednesday night.

Lozano, 29, left shortly before the midway point of the second half of Saturday's 2-0 victory. It is the second time he has hurt the left hamstring this season.

"San Diego FC reported and sent tests showing that Hirving Lozano has a left hamstring injury that prevents him from traveling to join the rest of the squad," the Mexican national team said in a statement. "The Mexican National Team wishes (him) a speedy recovery."

Mexico's Gold Cup opener is June 14 against the Dominican Republic at Inglewood, Calif.

Lozano has been a big hit for expansion San Diego FC. He has five goals and seven assists in 14 matches (12 starts), missing three games after first injuring the hamstring in the first half against St. Louis City on March 1.

San Diego (9-5-3, 30 points) is tied for second place in the Western Conference with Minnesota United. The Vancouver Whitecaps (32) are in first.
