Mandatory Credit: Rafael Suanes-Imagn Images Michael Porter Jr. scored a season-high 34 points and Tyrese Martin added a campaign-best 20 off the bench, lifting the visiting Brooklyn Nets to a 129-106 victory over the reeling Washington Wizards on Sunday.
Porter, who also had nine rebounds and seven assists, made 11 of 18 shots from the floor and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. He eclipsed his previous season high of 32 points, set on two occasions.
Brooklyn snapped a four-game losing skid due in large part to Porter and the unexpected scoring surge by Martin, who entered the contest averaging just 6.3 points per game.
Nic Claxton collected 17 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four blocks for the Nets, who shot a blistering 53.2% from the floor and 41.5% from 3-point range. They also held a 44-33 edge in rebounds.
Washington's Kyshawn George highlighted his 29-point performance by sinking five 3-pointers.
CJ McCollum had 17 points and Alex Sarr was limited to nine before fouling out for the Wizards, who have lost 11 in a row since posting a 117-107 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 24.
Washington trailed by 14 but whittled the deficit to one at 85-84 late in the third quarter after Marvin Bagley III converted a three-point play and McCollum sank a running floater in the lane.
Brooklyn, however, regained the momentum with Martin scoring seven points during his team's 9-0 run to end the quarter.
Noah Clowney sank three 3-pointers and Martin converted a three-point play and added a dunk to boost Brooklyn's lead to 108-88 with 7:55 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Washington trimmed its deficit to 13 in short order before the Nets pulled away.
Tre Johnson made a driving layup to cut Brooklyn's lead to 34-33 early in the second quarter before the Nets ignited a 22-9 run. Martin made a pair of 3-pointers to join Ziaire Williams with six points in that sequence.
