Mike Komisarek's Frustrating Practice Led To Emergency Eye Surgery
Maple Leafs defenseman Mike Komisarek had a rough practice on Monday.
"Shooting some pucks after practice, missed the net a few times and took it out on my stick."
Komisarek smashed his stick on the crossbar, because, seriously, fuck that stick. The stick broke, and one of the fiberglass shards lodged itself in Komisarek's eyeball. (Gah.) The doctor spent about an hour digging around, trying to remove the shard. (Gah!) It was finally found, pulled out, and the eyeball sutured closed. (GAH!)
Komisarek met with the media today, and besides an eye that looks red and irritated, he's none the worse for wear. He said it could have been worse—when he went to the doctor, he saw kid in the waiting room with a dart in his eye.
He also has some words of wisdom for anyone else getting frustrated at practice:
"At the end of the day, don't take it out on your stick and try to hit the net. Not the stick's fault."
