Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres Game 4 Betting Picks
The Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres will tangle in Game 4 of their best-of-five National League Division Series at Petco Park at 10 p.m. ET, and the game can be viewed or streamed on FS1.
If you missed Game 3 on Tuesday night, you missed a banger. I have to admit, I had a wager on the Padres, so that’s why I watched a game, not involving my favorite team, from beginning to end. It was very entertaining, mainly because I won, but also because it was just good baseball.
This entire series has been a sea of emotions, so I am glad I am not a fan of either side, although as an alumnus of Florida Atlantic University, I am partial to the Brewers because of manager Pat Murphy, who attended FAU, mostly playing catcher. He is in the school’s Baseball Hall of Fame, too, and it’s a proud, mid-major program in Boca Raton, Fla.
MLB Playoffs 10/7 best bet
Anyway, for the third time in as many games, we had a one-run game, and for the third time in as many games, the home team won. The Under is 2-0-1 in this series, as we’ve had timely hitting, good pitching, a little controversy and decent defense. In other words, it’s playoff baseball at its best.
Milwaukee actually scratched out 11 hits in Game 3, including a 3 for 4 night with a solo home run, two runs scored and a walk by the show-off C William Contreras, who obviously has never been beaned for his antics at the plate, or celebrating home runs. SS Cooper Pratt and DH Christian Yelich also collected two hits apiece, and Pratt had a heads-up, tag-up on a sac fly by LF Jackson Chourio on a shallow fly to left-center field.
For San Diego, though, while it had just six total hits, 2B Jake Cronenworth came up with a big solo homer to the right-field seats at Petco, producing out of the nine-hole. The team was able to overcome a so-so start by RHP Nick Pivetta, who allowed two runs and five hits in 4.1 IP.
The big news was RHP Michael King, who started Game 2 in Milwaukee. With CL Mason Miller going on the paternity list prior to Game 3, King came on as the closer on Tuesday night, a role he previously had filled in the New York Yankees organization before being stretched out as a starter with the Padres.
In Game 4, the pitching matchup has yet to be determined, at least for Milwaukee. San Diego will roll with RHP Walker Buehler, who is 4-4 with a 3.04 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 18 starts and one relief appearance with one save in the postseason during his career, with most of the production coming with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is also 2-0 with a 4.05 ERA and 1.20 WHIP with eight walks and 27 strikeouts across 33.1 IP in his past seven starts.
We’re going to stick with the PADRES (-112) and the home-team trend, but go with a half-unit play. However, go much more aggressively on the UNDER 7.5 (-128) in Game 4, as runs figure to be at a premium with San Diego’s season again on the line, and Petco Park not a hitter-friendly venue under normal circumstances, let alone high-stakes playoff baseball.
