MLB Best Bets: 3 Picks to Target on Sunday’s Full Slate
Whether it’s the heat or the rain (depending on your part of the country), there’s a good chance you may find yourself indoors today. That, of course, gives you a great reason to watch baseball. Talk about a great reason to check out my MLB Best Bets!
We’ve got a full slate of games to choose from; the following are my top picks:
New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays
In five of the last seven games, New York scored one run or less. They’ve barely hit .200 over the last week. Toronto starter Dylan Cease has held teams to .206, so it would not be surprising to see the Yankee lineup continue to struggle.
Toronto has hit .257 over the last week but isn’t scoring a lot. The Blue Jays have averaged under four runs per game and reached four runs only twice in their last six. Yankees starter Ryan Weathers is decent, though Toronto has handled him well, hitting .351 in 37 at-bats.
My Pick: Toronto ML (DraftKings)
The Yankees are struggling at the plate, and I don’t see them breaking out of their funk against a solid pitcher like Cease. Toronto isn’t doing much with the offense it generates, so rather than betting the run line, I’m taking them to win outright (moneyline).
Colorado Rockies vs. San Francisco Giants
Neither team has been reliable at the plate lately. Both hit around .215-.220 over the last week. Colorado has scored 0-6 points in its last five games while the Giants scored as much yesterday as it had in the last three games.
The Giants will have an advantage as long as the starters are in the game. Gabriel Hughes (Rockies) is 0-2 in three road starts with a 7.80 ERA while Blade Tidwell has been great at home (0.71 ERA, .167 OBA in 12 1/3 innings).
My Pick: Giants -1.5 at +153 (DraftKings)
It would not be shocking to see the Giants lineup wake up some in this game with Hughes on the mound and one of the worst bullpens in baseball backing him up (4.93 ERA, .278 OBA). The run line is still a risky play, but there is enough value in it at +153 for me to recommend it.
Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets
Both teams have been solid at the plate over the last week; Washington has hit a little better but has not been too much more productive. It is hard to say who (if anyone) has an advantage on the mound.
Christian Scott has better season numbers and has been solid at home (3.19 ERA, .250 OBA). But while Jake Irvin has not had a great season overall, he has held teams to a .164 BA on the road.
My Pick: Mets -1.5 at +129 (DraftKings)
Even if Jake Irvin can keep the Mets lineup in check, the Nationals bullpen will give the game up once again (like it did Saturday). The moneyline would be the more cautious play, but there is no value in it at -171.
With the run line price at +129, that’s enough value for me to roll the dice on the Mets winning by 2+.
