MLB Picks Today: Two Sunday Bets Worth Backing
The Sunday MLB card is loaded today with plenty of intriguing matchups on getaway day.
The Boston Red Sox (27-35) and New York Yankees (37-26) resume their series after getting rained out last night. The Red Sox captured the opener on Friday night, 5-3, avenging a home sweep by the Yankees earlier this season.
Tonight, the Chicago Cubs (34-31) look to build off a walk-off win over the San Francisco Giants (26-39) on Saturday. The Cubs have lost 15 of their last 20 games, including a 2-9 record at Wrigley Field.
We’ll break down two plays for the Sunday action. Remember to monitor the odds throughout the day, as the sides and totals market is constantly changing.

Best MLB plays today
- Rays (-115) at Marlins
- Athletics (-107) at Astros
Rays (-115) at Marlins - 1:40 p.m. ET
These Sunshine State rivals have split the first two games of their series with the Marlins coming out on top, 4-3 on Saturday. Miami (30-35) sends out right-hander Sandy Alcantara today, who allowed one run in six innings of an extra-innings victory at Tampa Bay in mid-May.
Alcantara has given up 17 earned runs in his past three starts, while Miami is 1-3 in his last four outings at loanDepot Park. Today, he faces a Tampa Bay (37-24) squad that has stumbled recently with losses in seven of the last 10 games.
The Rays have actually gotten their pitching on track after yielding 25 runs to Detroit in a three-game sweep last week. Griffin Jax has struggled in his last two starts for the Rays since Tampa Bay began 4-1 in his first five outings. At this short price, this is a good spot to back Tampa Bay to finish off this series with a victory.
Athletics (-107) at Astros - 2:10 p.m. ET
The Astros (30-36) cruised past the Athletics (30-34) in each of the first two games of the series, scoring 18 runs. Houston rolled to a 13-2 rout on Saturday, as the Astros seek their third sweep of the season today.
The A’s send out left-hander Gage Jump to the hill, who is coming off an impressive outing against the Cubs. Jump allowed one run in seven innings of a 2-1 victory at Wrigley Field, while striking out five batters for the second straight outing.
The Astros counter with right-hander Mike Burrows, who has given up at least 4 runs in three of the last four starts. Burrows has especially struggled at home, posting an ERA of 7.26, while Houston is 1-5 in those starts. Look for the A’s to avoid the sweep today and move to 7-3 in their last 10 road series finales.
