MLS Season Ends In Most Fitting Way Possible
The MLS Cup was last night. (Did you notice? Did you know NASCAR also crowned its champ?) It ended with an own goal and the hero injuring himself on his fateful strike. It couldn't have gone down any other way.
New York-Los Angeles was the final everybody wanted. So naturally we got Dallas and Colorado, with Colorado coming out of the East despite being in the Western Conference. Don't ask.
Tied at one, in the second half of overtime, Colorado's Macoumba Kandji went through the defender's legs and struck one that was headed wide before Dallas defender George John deflected it into his own goal. Kandji injured himself on the play, meaning the Rapids had to play the final 13 minutes a man down because they were out of substitutions.
"It wasn't necessarily the greatest game of football," said Rapids coach Gary Smith. I'm sure he followed that up with a qualifier, but I think it serves our purposes to leave it there.
