Monument To English Soccer Failure Sells For $635,000
Wondering what gift to get the English soccer hater in your life that already has everything? How about a $635,000, 10' x 7' tribute to English soccer failure, which just so happened to be sold off to an unknown bidder yesterday:
The artist, Maurizio Cattelan, describes his piece thusly on the Sotheby's auction page:
Carved into it are all the defeats of England's national football team. I guess it's a piece which talks about pride, missed opportunities and death.
Short and sweet, just like England's run in major international tournaments.
