Nation's longest winning streak on the line as Nebraska hosts Winthrop

The Cornhuskers (6-0) have won 10 in a row dating back to last season. Most recently, they swept through the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City by beating New Mexico and Kansas State, winning the latter game when they rallied from a two-point deficit in the final two minutes after squandering a 15-point lead.
"I'm really proud of how our guys handled adversity in both of these games," Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg said.
Forwards Pryce Sandfort and Rienk Mast lead the Cornhuskers in scoring at 16.5 and 16.2 points per game, respectively. Sandfort has three 20-point games since transferring from Iowa, while Mast already has a triple-double and a double-double after missing all of 2024-25 due to knee surgery.
Winthrop (3-3) comes to town following an 18-point win on Sunday at Jackson State. That followed a near upset of Arkansas, a game in which the Eagles took a five-point lead with 2:00 to go before falling 84-83.
Five seniors start for Winthrop, led by guards Daylen Berry and Kareem Rozier, who both average more than 14 points per game. Yet the Eagles are a work in progress as three of the seniors were not with the program last season and the other two came off the bench.
"We have a lot of new faces in our locker room," fifth-year coach Mark Prosser said. "For several years, we had an amazing amount of retention."
Both teams average more than 80 points per game, so it could be a high-scoring affair. And expect the 3-point attempts to be flying, as Nebraska makes an average of 11.5 3-pointers per game while Winthrop drains 10.8.
Nebraska has won its last 11 nonconference home games. This season, the Huskers have won their three home games by an average of 27.3 points.
Winthrop, playing its fifth road game this season and third in a row, seeks its first win over a power-conference team since beating Illinois in 2016 for its lone victory against a Big Ten school.
