NBA Roundup: Carmelo Anthony's One-Day Vacation
Notes on Thursday's games in the National Basketball Association ...
• No Soup For You. Punxsutawney Phil says that it's going to be an early spring, and that 's just fine with the Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony. He'd just as soon get the winter over as soon as possible. On the surface of it, it seems ludicrous to have the league's leading scorer (31.3 points per game) left off of the NBA All-Star team. But then he did commit the most heinous of all crimes; punching a Knick. It's that 15-game suspension that is the sticking point, apparently. But he served his time, and we kind of think he should still be there, you know? His Denver teammate Allen Iverson was chosen, extending his streak of consecutive All-Star appearances to eight. Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion were all chosen from the Suns. The Mavericks have only one player, Dirk Nowitzki. Here are the complete lineups.
• Wade Conducts Heat. Dwyane Wade led Miami back from an 18-point deficit in te fourth quarter to beat Cleveland and LeBron's big toe, 92-89, on Thursday. Wade had 41 points — a team-record 24 points in the fourth quarter — and was 23-of-24 from the line.
• How Ya Hoofin', Barbosa? Amare Stoudemire celebrated his inclusion on the All-Star squad with 24 points and a career-high 23 rebounds to lead Phoenix over San Antonio 103-87. Leandro Barbosa had 25 points.
