NFL Slaps Ed Reed With One-Game Suspension
In the third quarter last night, Ravens safety Ed Reed drew an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for this helmet-to-helmet hit on defenseless Steelers receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who didn't even bother to fake an injury. This being Reed's third such violation in three seasons (and second this year), Merton Hanks's ministry of justice decided to slam the shithammer: Reed will be suspended without pay for Sunday's game at the Chargers.
Baltimore's defense is already down Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb because of injuries, but the Ravens do have a two-game lead in the AFC North, and Ben Roethlisberger likely isn't playing again for the Steelers anytime soon. Coach John Harbaugh called the punishment "surprising" and vowed an appeal, which he expects to have heard by Wednesday—in time for the suspension to be taken this week, rather than for the Week 13 rematch with the Steelers.
