No. 3 Iowa State knocks off Utah for 10th straight win

Reserve Curtis Jones scored 23 points and No. 3 Iowa State pulled away for an 82-59 win over Utah in a Big 12 Conference matchup Tuesday night in Ames, Iowa.
Tamin Lipsey added 20 points for Iowa State (13-1, 3-0), which won its 10th in a row. Joshua Jefferson scored 17 and Keshon Gilbert finished with 15. Lipsey and Jefferson each grabbed a game-high seven rebounds.
Gabe Madsen scored 20 points to lead Utah (8-6, 0-3). Miro Little finished with 13 points off the bench and made two of three shots from beyond the 3-point line.
Iowa State shot 44.3 percent (27 of 61) from the field and 27.3 percent (6 of 22) from 3-point range. Utah shot 36.1 percent (22 of 61) overall and 24.1 percent (7 of 29) from long distance.
The Utes committed 18 turnovers, compared with eight for the Cyclones. The disparity led to a 25-6 advantage in points off turnovers for Iowa State.
Madsen made a 3-pointer to cut Utah's deficit to 47-41 with 13:05 remaining. That was the closest the Utes came to the lead the rest of the way.
The Cyclones went on a 9-0 run to increase their lead to 56-41 with 10:50 to play. Jones, who was 10-for-17 shooting from the field, made a jumper to punctuate the run.
Jefferson boosted Iowa State's lead to 23 when he made a layup with 1:26 to go and drained a pair of free throws 26 seconds later. That put the Cyclones on top 80-57.
Iowa State led 38-25 at the half.
The Cyclones jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first five-plus minutes. Jones hit a jumper and a 3-pointer to finish the early scoring binge.
Utah answered with a 15-2 run to pull ahead 22-17 with 9:07 remaining, Little capped the run with a 3-pointer on an assist from Caleb Lohner.
The back-and-forth swings continued as Iowa State closed the first half on a 21-3 run. Gilbert and Jones each made a 3-pointer during the rally.
