No. 3 Kansas too strong for No. 9 Oklahoma

Hunter Dickinson had 24 points and 14 rebounds and Kevin McCullar Jr. added 21 points as No. 3 Kansas beat No. 9 Oklahoma 78-66 on Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas.

McCullar had 15 points and Dickinson scored 14 in the second half as the Jayhawks pulled away late.

The double-double was Dickson's 10th of the season.

McCullar scored 10 during a 21-9 run early in the second half, then added five more during a 9-0 run that put Kansas (14-2, 2-1 Big 12) up by 16 with five minutes left.

The Jayhawks dominated in the paint, outscoring Oklahoma 46-26 there and 15-6 on the fast break to take control.

The win was the Jayhawks' 23rd consecutive over Oklahoma at Allen Fieldhouse. The Sooners' last win in the venue came in 1993.

Saturday's meeting was the programs' final in Lawrence before the Sooners move to the Southeastern Conference next season.

As time ticked down in the final two minutes with Kansas' victory assured, Jayhawks fans chanted "S-E-C."

Kansas looked like they were on track to create a comfortable margin early, jumping up by nine just more than seven minutes into the game by attacking the rim.

But the Sooners stormed back, keyed by their backcourt.

Oklahoma went on a 21-9 run, spacing the floor out and attacking the rim as Kansas missed nine of its next 12 shots.

The Jayhawks settled back in over the final four minutes to take a 38-37 lead into halftime.

Javian McCollum led the Sooners (13-3, 1-2) with 17 points while Milos Uzan added 15 and Otega Oweh 12.

Oklahoma scored just 29 points in the second half.

KJ Adams scored all 15 of his points in the first half for Kansas. He added 10 rebounds for his second double-double in three games.

Johnny Furphy started for Kansas for the first time since Nov. 20 and just the second time this season, as Elmarko Jackson came off the bench for the first time this season.

Kansas was 17 of 18 from the free-throw line, including 10 of 11 in the second half.
