Northwestern overpowers cold-shooting Arizona State

Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports Northwestern's Boo Buie made four 3-pointers, one more than Arizona State made as a team, and he finished with 22 points to lead the Wildcats to a 65-46 victory on Wednesday in the Hall of Fame Series at Phoenix.
Buie wound up 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, leading his team's 9-of-22 performance (40.9 percent) on 3-point attempts.
Brooks Barnhizer scored 13 of his 16 points in the first half for Northwestern (9-2). He also grabbed nine rebounds, while teammate Ty Berry had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Northwestern outrebounded Arizona State 41-31.
The Wildcats made 47.3 percent (26 of 55) of their shot attempts.
Arizona State hit 3 of 18 shots (16.7 percent) from 3-point range and 16 of 51 (31.4 percent) from the field.
Frankie Collins led the Sun Devils (6-5) with 10 points and three steals. Arizona's Bryant Selebangue had seven points and a team-best seven rebounds.
Northwestern outscored Arizona 16-3 over the last 10 minutes of the first half to take a 36-13 halftime lead.
The Wildcats made as many 3-pointers, five, as Arizona State made shots from the field before the break.
Northwestern sank 15 of 28 shots (53.6 percent) from the floor, 5 of 12 from beyond the arc, in the first half. The Sun Devils were 5 of 26 (19.2 percent) overall and 2 of 13 from 3-point range.
Barnhizer matched Arizona State's scoring total with 13 points in the half. He was 6 of 7 from the field with six rebounds.
LSU transfer Adam Miller, in his second game of eligibility with Arizona State after the NCAA relaxed its rule that forced two-time transfers to sit a year, was 0 for 4 from the field in the first half. He missed three of those shots from 3-point range.
Miller finished with six points while making one of 10 shots from the floor.
Arizona State cut the deficit to 44-28 with 12:13 remaining after going on a 10-3 run.
The Sun Devils could not get closer as Buie hit a 3-pointer and Nick Martinelli made a jumper in the lane to put Northwestern ahead by 21 with 11:09 remaining.
