Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports Chandler Stephenson scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and also had an assist as the Vegas Golden Knights snapped the Edmonton Oilers' 16-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
Connor McDavid scored a short-handed goal for Edmonton, which was denied a chance to tie the NHL-record, 17-game winning streak produced by the Mario Lemieux-led Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992-93.
The Oilers' run wound up tied with a 16-game stretch by the 2016-17 Columbus Blue Jackets.
Vegas' Adin Hill made 30 saves for his third straight win since missing 15 games with a lower-body injury. Nicolas Roy and William Karlsson also scored for the Golden Knights, who improved to 6-1-1 over their past eight games.
Edmonton took its first loss since Dec. 19, when it fell 3-1 on the road against the New York Islanders.
Stuart Skinner, who had his team-record, 12-game winning streak snapped, finished with 23 saves.
Edmonton took a 1-0 lead at the 4:35 mark of the first period when McDavid finished a two-on-one break by slapping in a crossing pass from Leon Draisaitl past Hill's glove side for his 21st goal.
Vegas tied it near the end of the period when Roy backhanded in a rebound of an Alex Pietrangelo shot from the right point. Roy notched his 10th goal of the season and extended his point streak to five games.
The Oilers dominated a scoreless second period, outshooting the Golden Knights 12-8, but Hill was up to the challenge. Edmonton's best scoring chance came on a power play midway through the period when Evan Bouchard's blast from the point clanged off the left post.
Stephenson put Vegas ahead 2-1 at 1:24 of the third period. He roofed a one-timer from the left circle past Skinner's blocker side for his ninth goal.
Draisaitl had a chance to tie it with eight minutes remaining, but Hill made a glove save on his close-in shot at the end of an odd-man rush.
Edmonton pulled Skinner for an extra attacker and Karlsson sealed the win with an empty-netter off a Stephenson feed with 32.8 seconds to go.
