OK, This Italy-Uruguay Game Is Officially Nuts
This match is insane. Uruguay trailed Italy 2-1 following a beautiful Alessandro Diamanti goal in the 73rd minute, but Edinson Cavani had the opportunity to equalize five short minutes later from another free kick. The striker did not disappoint.
Cavani ripped a shot from about 30 yards over that rocketed over the five-man Italian wall, past legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and into the back of the net. It was Cavani's second goal of the half, and the most impressive strike of the game.
Bear in mind, Buffon is one of the best keepers of the generation, and rarely gets beat from this distance. Just minutes before Cavani's goal, Buffon made this stunning double save on Diego Forlan, who is a legend in his own right.
Unreal. Unfair.
The match is tied 2-2 after 90 minutes, and because this is a medal match, Italy and Uruguay are set to play 30 more minutes. If it's still tied, they'll go to penalties. Free soccer, y'all.
