Oklahoma takes over in second half to roar past Alcorn State

Mandatory Credit: James Snook-Imagn Images Darrion Reid had career highs with 16 points and eight rebounds as Oklahoma pulled away in the second half to beat Alcorn State 72-53 on Sunday in Norman, Okla.
Nijel Pack had 17 points, five assists and five 3-pointers as the Sooners (4-2) forced 19 turnovers that led to 19 points. Oklahoma has won three of their past four games.
Sooners guard Xzayvier Brown had 11 points and four rebounds. He came away with an apparent right leg injury with four minutes remaining in the first half but returned to score nine points in the second half.
Tycen McDaniels had 12 points, Bryson Calamese had 11 points and Nick Woodard had nine points on three 3-pointers for the Braves (0-7), who have played all seven games on the road.
Reid, a transfer from Alabama and one of four transfers starting for the Sooners, had eight points and five rebounds in the second half.
Oklahoma outscored the Alcorn State 37-20 in the second half and extended its lead to as many as 21 points after leading by 35-33 at halftime.
The Sooners shot only 33.3 percent from the field, 9 of 31 from 3-point range, but had a 46-38 rebounding advantage after dominating the Braves 27-13 on the boards in the second half.
Alcorn State shot 37.7 percent from the field and made 8 of 18 from 3-point range.
The Braves spurted to a early 22-19 lead on a five-point possession that concluded an 8-0 run midway through the first half.
Sooners' center Mohamed Wague (six points, eight rebounds) was called for a personal foul and a technical foul when fell on the Braves' Mike Jones as the two contested a rebound under the Alcorn State basket.
Jones made two free throws, and Calamese hit a 3-pointer as the Braves retained the ball.
Woodard's third 3-pointer of the first half extended the Braves' lead to 31-27 before the Sooners finished the half on an 8-2 run for their two-point lead at the break.
