Onside Free Kick Fails, Still Looks Cool
The Vikings lost today when the Dolphins blocked a late punt to earn a game-winning safety, but with a few seconds left Minnesota still had a chance to get back on offense if they could properly execute the rare onside free kick. It didn't work, but still looks cool. We do wonder why they didn't just try punting the ball way up high so it traveled 15 yards or so, and then try to catch a rebound rather than this ultra-rare "sort of a placekick" approach never mind, the receiving team can still call for a fair catch. (Reminder: safety kicks cannot use a tee.)
