Oregon State, Wayne Tinkle agree to part ways after season
Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle calls to his team during the second half of their game against Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene Nov. 17, 2025. Oregon State and coach Wayne Tinkle agreed to part ways at the end of the 2025-26 season, the school announced Thursday.
"We are grateful to Wayne for his dedication to Oregon State and for the leadership he has provided our men's basketball program," Beavers athletic director Scott Barnes said in a news release. "He has represented Beaver Nation with integrity and commitment. As we approach the dawn of the new Pac-12 era, we believe it is in the best interest of our men's basketball program to transition to its next chapter. These decisions are never easy, but we are focused on positioning our program for sustained success in a rapidly evolving collegiate athletics landscape."
Tinkle is completing his 12th season leading the Beavers, over which he has amassed a 175-204 record (.462). He led Oregon State to just two NCAA Tournament appearances but made a famous run in one of them, taking the Beavers to the first Pac-12 tournament championship in program history and their first Elite Eight appearance since 1982 during the 2020-21 season.
This season, the Beavers (16-14, 9-8 West Coast Conference) will need to win the WCC tournament or will miss out of the NCAA Tournament. Oregon State finishes the regular season at Santa Clara on Saturday.
Tinkle, 60, was previously the head coach at Montana, his alma mater, from 2006-14, leading the Grizzlies to NCAA Tournament appearances as the Big Sky Conference champion in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
