Mandatory Credit: Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports The Baltimore Orioles placed right-hander Corbin Burnes on the paternity list Friday and recalled left-hander Matt Krook from Triple-A Norfolk.
Burnes, 29, gave up one run on nine hits over seven innings in a win against the Texas Rangers on Thursday as he improved to 9-3 and lowered his ERA to 2.28. The 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner for the Milwaukee Brewers is in his first season with the Orioles.
The MLB paternity list allows players to miss up to three games, with Burnes not expected to pitch in that time anyway.
The move does afford the 29-year-old Krook a chance to make his Orioles debut. Krook was roughed up for 11 runs in four relief outings with the New York Yankees last season as he appeared in the major leagues for the first time.
In 26 relief outings at Triple-A this season, Krook is 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA.
