Packers hope to extend QB Jordan Love's contract before camp
As Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich looks on, quarterback Jordan Love (10) throws a pass during organized team activities Wednesday, May 29, 2024 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Green Bay Packers are hoping to lock down their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future, and they want to do so before training camp.
Prior to last season, Green Bay gave Jordan Love a one-year, $13.5 million extension with the plan of starting him. Love did just that and managed to impress the front office, completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
But now the Packers are looking to reach a long-term deal with Love.
"We're in those conversations right now," Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst told 97.3 The Game, a Milwaukee-based radio station. "The nice part about this is none of these things are always easy or fast, but both parties want the same thing. We'd like to get this done before training camp for sure.
"Both parties want to get a contract extension done. Stability at that position really allows you to have some security with the way we build our team. We're looking forward to getting that done, but it never goes fast."
Even without an extension, the 25-year-old Love has still been participating in voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) this offseason. Training camp is set to start in just over a month.
Under his current contract, Love will make $11 million in 2024, about $40 million less than what solid quarterbacks are earning in the current market.
The Packers selected Love in the first round (26th overall) of the 2020 draft out of Utah State. He appeared in just 10 games (one start) over his first two NFL seasons before taking over starting duties in 2023.
With Love directing the offense last season, Green Bay reached the NFC divisional round, where it lost to the San Francisco 49ers. The Packers went 9-8 during the regular season.
