Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed the news on Friday after Stevenson missed practice for the third consecutive day.
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson is expected to handle the rushing duties for the Patriots (6-2) against the visiting Falcons (3-4). The Patriots also signed veteran running back D'Ernest Johnson to the practice squad on Wednesday.
Stevenson, 27, has rushed for 279 yards and three touchdowns and has 16 catches for 169 yards through eight games (all starts) this season, his fifth with the Patriots. His average of 3.4 yards per carry is a career low.
A fourth-round pick by New England in 2021, Stevenson has contributed 4,464 yards from scrimmage with 26 scores in 64 career games (43 starts). He rushed for a career-high 1,040 yards in 2022.
