Peyton Manning Watch: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Lost in all the madness of the tournament this weekend (it was lost to me, anyway) is that Peyton Manning is whittling his options down and my sources tell me he has it down to three teams: the Tennessee Titans, the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers.
Manning first worked out for San Francisco on Tuesday, then Denver Friday and Tennessee yesterday afternoon. Peyton worked out for Tennessee in Knoxville, the only workout not to take place at the Duke facility where iPhone Zapruder first brought us footage of Manning throwing.
Manning remains immensely popular in Tennessee, and Titans owner Bud Adams has said he has offered Manning a lifetime contract.
"I thought he looked comfortable throwing the ball, and we had a good visit," Titans general manager Ruston Webster said on the team's Twitter feed. "This is another important step in the process."
San Francisco, on the other hand, has remained kind of a surprising dark horse. The team seems to fill all the requirements it has been speculated Peyton wants—oh, that lovely weather!—except for that one little problem: Alex Smith. Good news Niner fans! Adam Schefter has your morning pick me up. It seems Smith is going to work out for the Miami Dolphins. Look out AFC East, you could be getting " every bit the elite QB as there is playing in the game right now."
Also sweetening the pot for San Francisco, is news that the team has just signed Super Bowl XLVI star Mario Manningham—adding him to Michael Crabtree and Randy Moss. Lousy division, solid defense and some kind of wide receiving corps? Oh, and the weather.
Peyton's decision is expected this week.
