Mandatory Credit: Bill Streicher-Imagn Images One of the most durable pitchers in Major League Baseball expects to be out until at least the All-Star break, as a recent MRI on Philadelphia Phillies' Aaron Nola revealed a stress reaction in one of his right ribs.
Nola, 32, has been out since mid-May after suffering an ankle injury during pregame agility drills. He recently said it was beginning to feel better. But that was also when he began feeling pain on his right side.
While it remains unclear how Nola suffered the rib injury, the Phillies opted to shut him down for at least two weeks.
According to Phillies manager Rob Thomson, Nola "just woke up one day, and it was sore."
Nola has gone 1-7 in nine starts this season with a 6.16 ERA, a career high over his 11 years, all with the Phillies.
Prior to the ankle injury, which resulted in him being placed on the 15-day injured list, the only other time Nola missed a start was in 2021 during a 10-day stint on the COVID-19 injury list.
