Pirates Pitcher Finishes Inning, Gives Himself A Gatorade Shower, Pirates Lose Anyway
James McDonald had quite a game last night. Pitched seven innings for the first time this season. Rapped a bases-clearing double. Scored a run. And when he finished retiring the Cubs in order in the seventh, as the above video shows, he had himself a grand ol' time. The Pirates had (cough) been in contention (cough) in the NL Central for much of this season in part because of their bullpen, and McDonald was exiting with a two-run lead. But these are the Pirates. They lost. They're now two games under .500. They've gone from tied for first to seven games back in exactly 10 days, and they were just swept in four games at home by the Cubs. All jesting aside, McDonald had every reason to celebrate: It's now officially football season in Pittsburgh.
