Pirates Plunder Walk-Off Win On Basically The Open Sea
Playing extra innings on Sunday in a ballpark that had essentially become an extension of the Allegheny River, the Pirates managed to capture a walk-off victory. First baseman Josh Bell was the one who showed off his sea legs and sent Milwaukee to Davy Jones’s locker, crushing the ball about 60 fathoms deep into center field when his crew was down to their final out. Bell’s cannon of a bat allowed the Buccaneers to sail home with their booty: a five-game sweep.
The 48-49 Pirates still look mostly like shark bait, but at least they can drop anchor at the All-Star break having won eight of their last nine.
