Pirates-Tigers postponed due to inclement weather forecast
Rain delay at a Tigers game against Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park in Detroit, Tuesday, June 8, 2021. The game Tuesday night between the Pittsburgh Pirates and host Detroit Tigers was postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather.
The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 12:40 p.m. ET and the second game starting about 40 minutes after Game 1's conclusion.
The original starting pitchers for Wednesday are listed as taking the mound for Game 1. Veteran right-hander Jack Flaherty (1-4, 3.84 ERA) goes for the Tigers, while rookie sensation Paul Skenes is starting for the Pirates. The right-hander, the No. 1 overall pick out of LSU in the 2023 MLB Draft, has made three starts and is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA, four walks and 21 strikeouts in 16 innings.
Game 2 starters are to be announced. Detroit veteran left-hander Tarik Skubal (6-1, 2.25) was slated to pitch Tuesday in a matchup with right-hander Jared Jones (3-4, 3.05), a 22-year-old rookie.
