Pitcher's Wife Calls Will Middlebrooks "Butthole" For Breaking Up No-No
A day after losing Cy Young candidate Garrett Richards for the year to a freak knee injury, the Angels got an unexpected lift: rookie starter Matt Shoemaker stepped up with the game of his life. He had a no hitter going until two outs in the seventh, when Boston's Will Middlebrooks lined a double to left. Mrs. Shoemaker wasn't pleased:
That's good. That's funny. Naturally, Red Sox fans got pissy about it, leading Danielle to delete the tweet, because we can't have nice things.
Matt Shoemaker "settled" for the win and seven-and-two-thirds innings of one-hit ball. That hanging splitter still stuck in his craw, though.
"It was supposed be down, but it was belt-high, middle-in," Shoemaker said. "He roped it down the line. Definitely an unfortunate pitch given the circumstances."
Only six pitchers have started a game for the Angels this season, and two of them—Richard and Tyler Skaggs, who needs Tommy John surgery—are done for the year. Barring a waiver-wire deal, Shoemaker will be part of the playoff rotation. He looks ready.
