Pitt Gymnasts Belly Flop Into Ice Water As A Training Exercise
The women’s college gymnastics preseason training is well underway—the competitive season begins in January—and teams have been releasing video snippets of training on social media for the past month.
On Friday, the women’s gymnastics team at the University of Pittsburgh posted a video of their uneven bars training, which highlighted an unusual feature—a kiddie pool filled with ice water under the high bar. If the gymnast missed the catch on her release move, she’d belly flop into ice water.
If the ice bath was supposed to deter gymnasts from falling, it didn’t seem to work that well. This short video features several belly flops, which everyone seems to have enjoyed. It certainly made falling several feet to the mat seem like more fun than it typically is.
