Player Swaps Caddie For Boyfriend During Round At U.S. Women's Open
Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman delivers the most earth-shaking tweet of this Saturday: Jessica Korda fired her caddie during the middle of the third round of the U.S. Women's Open, and replaced him with her boyfriend.
We tracked down what little video there is of the situation, and it's not really revelatory of anything but awkwardness. Korda's boyfriend looks kind of anxious about screwing up her approach, given that a four-over stretch over her last four holes dropped her from the top five to two-over and may have prompted the switch.
It's fair to laugh a little, but the situation's got to be genuinely weird for Korda, whose entire family is at this U.S. Women's Open: Her 14-year-old sister, Nelly, made the cut, and their dad, 1998 Australian Open champion Petr Korda, is on her bag this week. Dinner's gonna be really quiet, probably.
Oh, and the "Annika" who says she's "giggling" at the switch, and at the hubris of young players like the 20-year-old Korda, is, in fact, Annika Sörenstam. Retirement is fun.
