Pro-Trump Spurs Fans Willingly Show Their Asses, Complain About Gregg Popovich's Politics

The Washington Post today published a Cletus safari of Donald Trump supporters, but with a twist—these people are also fans of the San Antonio Spurs, whose coach, Gregg Popovich, isn’t shy about giving his liberal takes to the press. Popovich’s criticism of the president—and not the fact that the seventh-seeded Spurs are very much in danger of getting swept out of the first round this year—has led some fans to say that they’ve abandoned their team.

Cassandra Casanova—whose name is infinitely more interesting than her political opinions—is one of those ex-fans. According to the , “she has no problem with Kawhi Leonard, Manu Ginóbili or Tony Parker. Her anger is directed solely at Coach Gregg Popovich.”

Casanova says she doesn’t know or care when the Spurs play, because she’s “angry” at how Popovich is “attacking the people who had been so loyal.” And shockingly, she “doesn’t feel as though she missed a thing” when the Spurs got wrecked by the Warriors in Game 1 of their first-round series on Saturday. She also put a bunch of her Spurs memorabilia in a garbage bag and donated it.

She says she’s not watching the NFL while players protest during the national anthem and avoids movies that feature actors who espouse liberal views.

Similarly, Spurs fan Dawn Hold is stuck with “about 75 shirts and Spurs-decorated jewelry, purses and shoes” that she can’t wear because she’s been hurt by Popovich’s words. The Post reports she’s been a fan since the beginning of the Tim Duncan era, which means she’s seen the team win five NBA titles. But when the Spurs were getting beat down on Saturday, Hold went bowling. Brave.

The most humiliated of the three sad fans featured in the article is Bob Mulherin, who says, “I often curse Pop for doing what he did.” Mulherin is now stuck watching the Spurs lose by himself because his wife and son think the coach was too mean to the Big Wet President:
