Racist Dutch Soccer Fans Throw Inflatable Banana At Black Player (Update)
Feyenoord fans continue to expose themselves as douche bags of the highest order. First it was trashing Rome before the first leg of their Europa League tie against Roma, then it was threatening further shenanigans ahead of the return leg, and now they've gone ahead and gotten racist.
In the video above, you can see Roma forward Gervinho turn toward the crowd near the touch line, then the ref halt play. As the announcers struggle to understand what exactly the commotion was, a side judge picks up the big banana toy that a fan threw onto the pitch. A little later, the head ref can be seen talking with the two managers, reportedly telling them that he was going to call the match if another racist incident happened.
Soccer fans, man. You aren't safe from them anywhere.
Updated: About ten minutes into the second half, Feyenoord striker Mitchell te Vrede was red carded for a late tackle. The home fans were angry at what did look like a harsh call, so they apparently began throwing things on the pitch. In the confusion, the ref suspended the match and took everyone off the pitch:
Play was halted for about twenty minutes before being resumed. Shit is crazy in Rotterdam.
