During a traffic stop in Jackson County, Indiana, police smelled marijuana in Rondo’s car and began a search, ISP spokesperson Sgt. Stephen Wheeles told WDRB. During the search, police found a gun and drug paraphernalia. The 37-year-old was arrested and taken to a Jackson County jail, where he posted bond.
Rondo, 37, is not allowed to have a firearm because of a no-contact order taken out against him. In 2022, Rondo had an emergency protective order filed by a woman dismissed after “parties reached an agreement,” according to documents obtained by ESPN. The request alleges Rondo threatened the woman with a gun and cited Rondo’s history of “volatile, erratic [and] explosive behavior,” making her fear for the safety of her children.
WDRB could not reach Rondo’s attorney for comment.
The four-time All-Star last played in the NBA as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2021-22 season. The two-time NBA champion also played for the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, and Los Angeles Kings. He led the league in assists per game three times.
Rondo was selected 21st overall in the 2006 NBA Draft after starring at Kentucky. He was inducted into the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023.
