Mandatory Credit: Dennis Schneidler-USA TODAY Sports The New York Rangers placed veteran forward Barclay Goodrow on waivers Tuesday.
Goodrow, 31, tallied 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 80 games during the 2023-24 regular season and added six goals and two assists in 16 games during the playoffs.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion carries a salary cap hit of $3.64 million for each of the next three seasons and the Rangers are seeking cap relief.
If he is claimed, his entire salary cap charge would convey to his new team. If unclaimed, the Rangers can buy out the remaining seasons of his deal. A buyout would keep him on their books for six years but will not start counting against them until the 2025-26 season.
If New York opts for the buyout, Goodrow would become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Goodrow signed a six-year, $21.85 million deal with the Rangers in July 2021, days after New York acquired him in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
A Cup winner with the Lightning in 2019-20 and 2020-21, Goodrow has posted 169 points (60 goals, 109 assists) in 572 games with the San Jose Sharks (2014-20), Lightning (2020-21) and Rangers.
