Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images Major League Baseball suspended Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Edwin Uceta three games on Wednesday for intentionally drilling Nick Castellanos with a 96 mph fastball the night before.
The suspension will begin Wednesday unless Uceta chooses to appeal the decision. He was also fined an undisclosed amount, MLB said in its release.
Rays manager Kevin Cash also received a one-game suspension and undisclosed fine.
The incident happened in the 8th inning of Tuesday night's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Uceta hit Castellanos after giving up a tiebreaking two-run double, an RBI single, Trea Turner's two-run home run and Bryce Harper's double. The benches and bullpens emptied and Uceta was ejected.
Uceta, 26, is 2-0 with a 1.49 ERA and two saves in 25 relief appearances this season, his first with the Rays.
The teams finish their three-game series later Wednesday.
