Remember When Prince Fielder Slapped An Inside-The-Park Home Run?
Photo credit: Morry Gash/ [object Object] According to Ken Rosenthal, the Rangers will announce tomorrow that Prince Fielder is going to retire. Fielder had neck surgery a few weeks ago, and it’s apparently going to keep him from playing again. He will retire with 319 dingers, exactly the same amount as his father Cecil had in his career.
Fielder is not a particularly athletic-looking ballplayer, so one of the dongs on his career spray chart will stand out more than the rest.
Fielder hit that little guy in the middle of center field there back in 2007 when he was on the Brewers. Lew Ford lost track of the ball after it hit a speaker in the roof of the Minnesota stadium, which turned a routine flyout into a wonderfully entertaining scramble around the bases.
Fielder told reporters after the game, “I’m a little quicker than people think.” The Onion commemorated the occasion by declaring ‘Prince Fielder Dies Of Inside-The-Park Home Run.’ He managed to hit another one a year later, but it wasn’t as wild or weird as his 2007 inside-the-park dong.
