Report: Blazers Owner Paul Allen's Yacht Tore Up A Bunch Of Coral Reef
This summer, Blazers owner Paul Allen, a disgustingly rich man, donated $4 million to a research project aimed at reversing the rapid decline of coral reefs. According to the Cayman Islands’ Department of Environment, Allen’s yacht destroyed 14,000 square feet of coral reef two weeks ago. Way to go, Paul.
The Department of Environment claims the damage was done by the anchor chain on Allen’s mega-yacht, MV Tatoosh. The full extent of the destruction is still being calculated, and Allen seems to be shirking responsibility. Here is an official statement released by his company, Vulcan:
On January 14, 2016, M/V Tatoosh was moored in a position explicitly directed by the local Port Authority. When its crew was alerted by a diver that her anchor chain may have impacted coral in the area, the crew promptly, and on their own accord, relocated their position to ensure the reef was protected. Vulcan and the ship’s crew are actively and cooperatively working with local authorities to determine the details of what happened. An investigation by local authorities is ongoing.
No matter how much damage Allen’s yacht actually caused, I think we can all agree that MV Tatoosh is a stupid-ass name for a boat.
