Report: Colts' Daniel Adongo Benched As Police Investigate Distress Call
Daniel Adongo, a fringe outside linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, was benched by the Colts yesterday, with the reason listed as “not injury related.” According to a report from the , Adongo’s benching was because the police were called to his house on Thursday morning. As to why they were there:
Officers on Thursday morning went to Adongo’s home to check on the welfare of a female resident there, police said. The woman sent a text to a friend indicating she needed help, according to Fishers police. The friend contacted police, who then made contact with the woman.
Adongo has played a few downs here and there this season, as well as in 2013. He’s bounced back and forth from the practice squad for two years. The Colts released the following statement:
“The Indianapolis Colts are aware of media reports regarding a possible criminal investigation of Daniel Adongo. As is evident from the reports, the facts relating to the alleged incident are highly uncertain. We are investigating the matter and until we have gathered clear information, it would be unfair to all concerned for us to make any public comment.”
Before signing with the Colts in 2013, Adongo played professional rugby in South Africa, where he attended college. He was born in Nairobi, Kenya, and is the first player from Kenya to play in the NFL.
