Report: Four Killed In Copa Libertadores Victory Celebrations In Colombia
Photo credit: Fernando Vergara/ [object Object] Atletico Nacional won the Copa Libertadores last night over Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle. The title is Nacional’s second continental championship, and their first in the post-Pablo Escobar era. Fans are, of course, celebrating their team’s title vigorously. Here’s a look at the in-stadium party during the ceremony.
However, things took a grim turn last night. According to a report from the Associated Press, four people were killed last night in the celebrations. Apparently, 23 more people were injured, 100 were arrested, and police had to deal with “more than 600 street fights.”
One of those killed was wearing the shirt of a rival Medellin club when he was slashed in the neck with a knife. There were also reports that mobs of Nacional fans attacked adversaries in Bogota.
