Mandatory Credit: Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images New York Giants starting running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. may miss significant time after suffering a dislocated shoulder early in Sunday night's loss to Kansas City, ESPN reported Monday.
The play happened with 1:39 left in the first quarter as Tracy was running toward the sideline and got walloped between two defenders. He laid nearly motionless, tapping his left arm when trainers rushed over to him. He was helped off the field and was spotted holding his left arm.
Tracy did not return, finishing the 22-9 loss to the Chiefs with 29 yards on seven carries along with two catches for 7 yards.
"It's tough when you see a guy like Tracy, one of your star running backs, go down with a shoulder on the sideline," Giants quarterback Russell Wilson said after the game.
Despite dropping to 0-3, the Giants may have found a silver lining in rookie running back Cam Skattebo. In Tracy's absence, Skattebo gained 60 yards on 10 carries, scored the Giants' only touchdown and finished as the team's top receiver with six catches for 61 yards.
The fourth-round pick out of Arizona State has shown promise in his first three games and played significantly more offensive snaps on Sunday (39) than fellow running back Devin Singletary (16).
Tracy, in his second year out of Purdue, was in line to have a productive season as the Giants' No. 1 ball-carrier. A year ago, he finished with 839 yards with 4.4 yards per carry and five touchdowns.
