Report: Jack Eichel, Knights reach 8-year, $108M extension
NHL Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel The Golden Knights have reportedly secured an eight-year, $108 million extension with center Jack Eichel, just hours before Vegas is set to open the regular season with a visit from the Los Angeles Kings.
Eichel, who had been in talks with the team throughout training camp to nail down a long-term deal, will earn an average salary of $13.5 million, according to ESPN on Wednesday.
Eichel, 28, was entering the final year of an eight-year, $80 million deal he originally signed with the Buffalo Sabres, who drafted him with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Eichel came to the Knights via trade in 2021 and notched a league-high 26 points in 22 playoff games to help Vegas win its first Stanley Cup in 2023.
The Chelmsford, Mass., native is one of six players already tapped to play for Team USA at the 2026 Olympics in Milan.
Last season, Eichel erupted for a career-high 94 points (28 goals, 66 assists) in 77 games while taking just four minor penalties, making him a first-time finalist for the Lady Byng Award, given "to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability."
In 616 career games with the Sabres and Golden Knights, Eichel has 239 goals and 369 assists for 608 points. In 40 playoff games, all with the Golden Knights, he has amassed 43 points (10 goals, 33 assists).
