Report: NFL Chooses Katy Perry To Perform Super Bowl Halftime Show
The New York Post is reporting that Katy Perry will perform at the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show. Deadspin Culture Editor Rob Harvilla told me "I saw her live like a month ago, she's funny, it'll be better than The Who," so it seems like a pretty good choice. But don't worry, there's still time for the doofuses that make these decisions to pair the Black Eyed Peas or (shudder) Pitbull with her.
In August the Wall Street Journal reported that the NFL had talked to three artists—Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Coldplay—about performing at the Super Bowl. But there was a catch: they would actually have to pay the NFL to perform. On College GameDay last weekend, Perry rubbished that idea, saying "Umm, I'm not the type of girl that would pay to play the Super Bowl, so..."
For my money, the best Super Bowl halftime show ever was the Super Bowl XXIX (1995) Indiana Jones-themed performance. I'd much rather see a themed show than a concert, so can we bring those back?
