Report: NFL Will Investigate Vontaze Burfict's Ankle-Twisting
After complaints from the Panthers alleging that Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict was giving a little extra on two tackles and trying to twist Cam Newton's and Greg Olsen's ankles clean off, the NFL will reportedly review tape and consider further discipline for Burfict.
That's according to ESPN's Ed Werder, who adds that Panthers coach Ron Rivera sent footage of Burfict's shady tackling to the league office.
Yesterday, Olsen called on the NFL to suspend Burfict:
"In instances like that that are so clearly premeditated," Olsen said, "that he had in his mind that if he had those opportunities that he was going to try to attack guys' legs, but guys who are coming off ankle problems specifically, there's no room for it. And I think the punishment needs to go beyond a fine. Guys like that don't learn from that stuff. He's been fined 100 times for head-hunting, and he did it to Kelvin [Benjamin] again. You watch the film; it's just what he is."
Burfict hasn't spoken to the media. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis was dismissive.
"No, I don't have any comment on it," Lewis said laughing. "Ankle wrenching? That sounds like the WWF."
Burfict wasn't flagged for either tackle.
