Mandatory Credit: Tim Heitman-Imagn Images The Dallas Cowboys have a good news and bad news situation with injured defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. Per a report on Sunday from ESPN, the Lisfranc injury in Lawrence's right foot won't require surgery, but he is still looking at being out four to eight weeks.
The four-time Pro Bowler has recorded three sacks in four games this season.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy described the injury as being more severe than the team originally expected a day after Dallas' 20-15 win over the New York Giants on Thursday night, when he suffered the injury in the third quarter chasing Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
A closer look at his sprain revealed no bones displaced, meaning an avoidance of surgery, but the standout defender is still likely headed to injured reserve, which would keep him out at least four games.
The Cowboys (2-2) have an extended break before Week 5 with what appears to be a challenging stretch ahead. The Cowboys play the Steelers (3-0) in primetime Oct. 6 at Pittsburgh and host the Detroit Lions (2-1) in Week 6 before a bye week. The Cowboys return for a Sunday night matchup with the San Francisco 49ers (1-2) on Oct. 27.
Linebackers Micah Parsons was also injured Thursday, but his high ankle sprain isn't expected to keep him out as long.
Lawrence, 32, has 61.5 career sacks in 141 regular-season games.
