Report: Nuggets give Aaron Gordon 4-year, $133M extension

Locking up a frontcourt starter for the long term, the Denver Nuggets agreed to a four-year, $133 million extension with Aaron Gordon on Monday, the forward's agents told ESPN.
Per the report, Gordon, 29, accepted his $23 million option for the 2025-26 season, with the new pact linking him to the Nuggets through 2028-29. A trade kicker (a bonus paid to the player in the event he is traded) reportedly is included in the extension.
Last season, Gordon averaged 13.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 73 games, all starts. The Nuggets lost in the Western Conference semifinals to the Minnesota Timberwolves after Gordon put up 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 12 postseason starts.
The prior campaign, he helped the Nuggets capture their first NBA championship by contributing 16.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 68 regular-season starts, then 13.3 points, 6.0 boards and 2.6 assists in 20 postseason starts.
The Magic selected Gordon fourth overall in the 2014 draft out of Arizona, and he spent 6 1/2 seasons in Orlando. The Nuggets acquired him in a March 2021 trade.
His best statistical season was 2017-18, when he averaged 17.6 points and 7.9 rebounds, both career highs.
The Nuggets open the season on Thursday against the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder in a matchup of two of the Western Conference favorites.
