Report: The Vikings Are Trying To Hire Bill Parcells
Oh, you thought Bill Parcells was going to babysit the Saints for a year? Not if Zygi Wilf gets his way, says the New York Post:
Even as the Saints beg Bill Parcells to come to New Orleans, The Post has learned Vikings owner Zygi Wilf is putting the hard sell on the former Giants and Jets coach to head to Minnesota and "run the show.''
The Saints are seeking a replacement for the 2012 season for suspended head coach Sean Payton, while Wilf, who has strong New Jersey ties, is simply seeking an upgrade over coach Leslie Frazier and GM Rick Spielman and believes Parcells is the guy.
Yes, Bill Parcells is 70. Yes, Bill Parcells was 34-30 in his last coaching stint, which ended six years ago. Yes, he most recently built the Miami Dolphins, that juggernaut, before departing in September 2010 for ESPN. Remind me why everyone wants to hire this guy?
Update: According to 1500 ESPN in the Twin Cities, Parcells' offer from the Vikings—Wilf apparently told him to name his price—is not new. Tom Pelissero writes that the revelation in the Post is "nothing more than a leverage ploy."
