He is listed in tonight's lineup for Triple-A Toledo.
Newman is an eight-year veteran, known for his defensive ability. He played five seasons for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2018-22) and one season for the Cincinnati Reds (2023), before landing with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024.
With the D-Backs, Newman had a productive season, posting 2.2 WAR per Baseball Reference. He batted .278 across 111 games.
Newman signed with the Los Angeles Angels last offseason, but his production took a sharp decline in 2025. In 56 games, Newman recorded a -0.9 WAR and batted a career-low .202. The Angels designated him for assignment on July 31st to clear a roster spot for trade acquisition Oswald Peraza.
