Report: Tony Romo making another attempt at PGA Tour Q-School
Tony Romo hits a tee shot on the 6th hole during the ACC Golf Tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, July 14, 2019. Tony Romo isn't giving up on his golfing dreams.
Romo, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback making roughly $17.5 million per year to call NFL games for CBS, is entered into a PGA Tour Q-School pre-qualifier later this month, Golf Channel reported Monday.
Romo's pre-qualifier will take place Sept. 18-20 at Sand Creek Station Golf Club in Newton, Kan. The Wednesday-Friday schedule of the tournament isn't likely to keep him away from football duties for too long.
He and Jim Nantz will be on the call of the Cincinnati Bengals at Kansas City Chiefs game this Sunday before Romo travels south to the Wichita area for the pre-qualifier.
Romo, 44, has played Q-School before. He failed to get past pre-qualifying in each of the past two years, but in 2018, he advanced to the first stage before bowing out.
PGA Tour Q-School offers a pathway for golfers to secure tour cards for the following season. Players who narrowly miss out can also earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour Americas.
Romo has played several PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour events on sponsors' exemptions, including the 2019 Byron Nelson. He has missed the cut three times and withdrawn once. He also has attempted to qualify for the U.S. Open in the past.
