Reports: Lakers, Clippers set to resume home schedules Monday
Firefighters attempt to extinguish a fire in a home along the Pacific Coast Highway in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood on Jan. 8, 2025. A wildfire broke out in Los Angeles County on Jan. 7, which has destroyed more than 1,000 homes, businesses and other structures, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone said at a briefing Wednesday. The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are set to resume their home schedules with games on Monday, multiple outlets reported.
The Lakers had two home games postponed and the Clippers had one following a spate of wildfires in the Los Angeles area that began on Tuesday.
The Lakers will play host to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, while the Clippers take on the Miami Heat in Inglewood, Calif., the same evening.
The Lakers announced Sunday that they will hold a donation drive at Crypto.com Arena before games on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The team said it will collect donations starting 1 1/2 hours before tipoff until the end of halftime to support area community and relief efforts, stemming from the wildfires.
The team also said it will collect drop-off donations at the Lakers UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo on Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
The Lakers host the Miami Heat on Wednesday and the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. The club's games against the Charlotte Hornets last Thursday and the Spurs on Saturday were postponed due to the wildfires.
The Clippers had their Saturday game against the Hornets postponed. They also have a Wednesday home game versus the Nets.
The Clippers are slated to host the Lakers in Inglewood on Sunday, Jan. 19.
The largest of at least five Los Angeles-area fires was in Pacific Palisades, which claimed the home of Lakers head coach JJ Redick, as well as the childhood home of Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.
Clippers star forward Kawhi Leonard left the team before a game Wednesday at the Denver Nuggets to assist his family after his home was in an evacuation zone.
According to ABC News, 16 people have been confirmed dead and a combined 12,000 structures have been destroyed in the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire in nearby Altadena.
