Reports: RHP Frankie Montas agrees to 2-year, $34M deal with Mets
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Frankie Montas (47) throws during the first inning of their wild-card playoff game against the New York Mets Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Right-hander Frankie Montas has agreed to a two-year, $34 million deal with the New York Mets, multiple media outlets reported Sunday night.
Coming off a National League Championship Series appearance, New York is trying to fill in its starting rotation after watching Sean Manaea, Luis Severino and Jose Quintana hit free agency.
Montas' deal is pending a physical, and the 31-year-old can opt out of the contract following the 2025 campaign, per the reports.
In 30 starts with the Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers last season, Montas went 7-11 with a 4.84 ERA. He logged 150 2/3 innings during his time with the two clubs.
Montas is 44-46 with a 4.09 ERA in 160 career appearances (129 starts) with the Chicago White Sox (2015), Oakland Athletics (2017-22), New York Yankees (2022-23), Reds (2024) and Brewers (2024).
The Mets went 89-73 this year and reached the postseason through the NL wild-card race.
